Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

Amulets can take many forms, but its main purpose is in its alleged power to protect the object’s owner from danger and harm. This is not to be confused with a talisman which I mentioned during my discovery of Brooklyn Bambini’s baby sculptures. The bronze and silver sculptures from The Brooklyn Bambini differ from amulets as a talisman is believed to bring luck, health and focus, offering protection.

One such amulet is the scarab beetle. Which I’ve noticed not only in my own home (both my mother and grandmother have an affinity for the insect) but it’s been a reoccurring obsession in the world of fashion and art.  The scarab beetle’s rise to fame came from Ancient Egyptians worshiping over the beetle thus awarding the scarab “God Status.” Egyptians wore scarab amulets to protect them from death and even were buried with scarab amulets ensuring a safe journey to the afterlife.

Maybe you need a little protection from the boogy man, polar vortex or a jerk-off boss; I’ve rounded up some inspiration for you.

Do you have any amulets (non-insect or otherwise?) Tell me in the comments! And yes, that piece of amethyst crystal perched on your nightstand counts too.

A 3D printed scarab beetle in Sterling Silver. A perfect scarab with all the little details. What an Egyptian metalsmith would have crafted, had the Pharaohs dreamed of direct-metal printing. Design by Elytra, 3D printing by Shapeways.
