the brooch brigade

9 August 2012

Is it just me or does anyone else find this Fall’s chunky collar trend incredibly awkward?  A tad too long, a bit too short or just baby bib-like.

What the oh-so-trendy “chokers” have indicated is that we are finally dipping our toes back into a world full of statement jewelry. No longer are we afraid to bejewel ourselves with embellishment, shimmer and sparkle.  So, setting my oversized collar aside, allowing my bruised collarbone to heal, I dug deep into my bag of baubles and broke out a more reliable, practical, and multipurpose “statement” piece:

The Brooch.

bring on the brigade

I call for a compromise. Let’s embrace the glitz, but lean towards grace. Float one in your hair, fasten it to your lapel or pin one to your peplum. Shala Monroque has the right idea.

Never thought of the brooch quite like that. Beautiful. And who’s wearing doggie collars? Haven’t seen them yet where I live but maybe it’s for old lady’s that don’t want their necks to be seen. Just a thought.

My mother is queen of the brooch! I think they are so elegant, and remind me of her. I was like in the 5th grade wearing them (no lie, and was so embarrassed). I hope they always continue to be a “yes” in fashion because I have a million of them coming my way. My grandmother’s vintage pearl & gold, as well as, ANY Chanel brooch are amongst my faves.
