Monday Music: AlunaGeorge

7 January 2013

Typically, I’m introduced to new music through sing-song lyrics or toe-tapping beats.  To get a visual perspective on my audible reactions, I’ll look up the video to the song, but very rarely, do the two ever  match up.  Like books turned movies, the former is usually far better than the latter. Case in point: Janet Evanovich – best selling series, turned movie – One for the Money?! Uh, hello!

I was pleasantly surprised when the video “Your Drums, Your Love” by UK pop duo AlunaGeorge came across my computer screen.  Aluna Francis and George Reid (get it, AlunaGeorge) waltz around an art gallery chock full of monochromatic illustrations including bears, sharks and coyotes, oh my.  Dancers weave around the seemingly arguing couple choreographed drop, popping and locking.

The pair has a full album out in June (perfect for summer time BBQ’s) and just released this little taste called “Diver” that’s had me bopping in my chair since the early morning:

PS:  If you’re admiring Aluna’s beautiful geometric necklace, it’s designed by Shimell & Madden out of the UK, but here are few pieces I found stateside: iluxo on etsy or Ippolita if you’re fancy.
