Monday Music: J Boogie

20 August 2012

A few years ago, my good friend Vaughan Lazar introduced me to J Boogie’s “Dubtronic Science” at Miami’s Winter Music Conference. With one listen to “Inferno,” I was hooked.

Hip-hop, house, funk, downtempo, reggae, there’s no classifying J Boogie; he brilliantly blends genres into seamless audible excellence.

Let’s say I’m listening to J Boogie on a run, I wind up skipping instead of jogging, smiling the entire time. My feet feel a little lighter and so does my mood.  Isn’t that what all musicians want–to make the listener simply “feel better?” Try playing the Mark Farina remix of Dream Machine and tell me your feet aren’t an ounce lighter!

Just this July, J-Boogie released a new round of experiments perfect for summertime. Adding Erykah Badu, Gotye, Little Dragon and Faze-O to his collection of remixes, and seeing that I have summer in a chokehold, I couldn’t help but share this ray of sunshine with you for a Monday listen.

Try Little Dragon’s “Crystalfilm” first:
