Monday Music: James Blake “Retrograde”

11 February 2013

To contrast last night’s Grammy Awards chock full of glitter, leaping leprechauns and nail-art*, I give to you a bit of a musical detox; James Blake.

James Blake just released ‘Retrograde’ the first single from his forthcoming album “Overgrown.”  Retrograde exudes Blake’s steady dub-step with hints of R&B, yet to me — his work is still genre-less. For the Retrograde video, he’s teamed up again with the brilliant Director, Martin de Thurah, the genius behind Blake’s “Limit to your Love” and Ikea’s short commercial “Home.”

The song plus the video… is just crazy (as in: loopy crazy) yet remains beautiful. Crazy-Beautiful. OK, I’ll stop talking, just on + just watch, listen:

Retrograde available here, and full album will be released on April 8th.

*Wake me up when nail-art is over.
