Tulle without the Tiaras

4 March 2013

Tulle brings back memories of the ballerina I never was,the sweet-sixteen I never had and really awful goth fairy costumes sexy goth fairy costumes. Lately, tulle is popping up everywhere in a different light.  On the runway, themes for birthday parties and on the street adding an edgier preppy spin. As the cold weather turns warmer and we head into spring, let’s let loose a little and bring out the playfulness of taffeta, organza and grown-up tu-tus.

perfect ensemble: crop top + skirt from etsy shop Fanfaronada.

This look can be worn day to night.  Just play with the colors: navy, black and crimson for evening affairs, galas or black-tie weddings.  Aqua, canary yellow and cobalt for spring brunches and backyard BBQ’s.

perfection. cashmere + tulle.

Wear it high-waisted with a lightweight tee, cashmere sweater, blazer or fitted tank.  Just make sure the skirt is full and dramatic with the hem  hitting just below the knee.  Think more fairy princess + less queen of the ice-rink.
