Urban Cinematheque

27 August 2014

By definition: Urban means city, town, metropolis and Cinematheque is defined as a small movie house specializing in avant-garde films.

So, what does that mean for your Friday night?

= A film under the stars, in this case, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, projected upon The Everson Museum of Art’s grand facade in the heart of downtown Syracuse.

Summer is coming to a close, so what would be a better way to cap it off then a night at the movies under the stars?

I first came to learn about this incredible event by its host, Urban Video Project. UVP is a multi-media public art initiative with a mission to present exhibitions that celebrate arts and culture while engaging artists and the creative community. The Grand Budapest Hotel screening is the finale UVP’s wildy successful Summer Film Series Under the Stars and word is, this will be the biggest one yet.

To go out with a bang, UVP has invited 30+ local arts and cultural organizations, such as The Landmark Theatre, Light Work and The Delavan Center to join the event for a art + culture fair before the movie. These organizations will have information about upcoming events, exhibitions and opportunities to get involved.

When: Friday, August 29th, 2014
Where: The Everson Museum, 401 Harrison Street, Syracuse, NY 13202
When: 7:30PM
What to bring: chairs, blankets and your mobile devices on silent. And come hungry!  Small Plates will be there with their Mac and Four Cheese Gratin & Detroit Style Coneys. If you’re feeling snoozy, you can always have a refresh from Recess Coffee too.

Personally, I plan getting into character with full on “Agatha” braids. (Halloween costume spoiler alert!) Feel free to pencil in your best (or worst) Lobby Boy mustache.

if you need a Agatha braid tutorial, try this. Super easy.

Here are a few photos from the past events + the film, looks like an enchanting evening doesn’t it?

let's hope for weather just like this.

Wes Anderson is known for his quotable lines in all his films, here’s my favorite:

“Rudeness is merely an expression of fear. People fear they won’t get what they want. The most dreadful and unattractive person only needs to be loved, and they will open up like a flower.” – M.Gustave played by Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel
